Teegan & Michael

Teegan and Michael’s heartwarming winter wedding was held on Saturday 27th July, 2019.  We asked them a few questions about their special day, read on for their answers in their own words.

How did you meet?
We met the night of Teegan’s nursing ball, introduced by a mutual friend. The chemistry was undeniable, but it wasn’t until a few weeks, and many Facebook messenger conversations later that Michael worked up the nerve to ask Teegan out.

How did Michael pop the question?
5 years ago we embarked on a European holiday, and spent 6 weeks experiencing a European winter and all the freezing joys that sub zero temperatures can offer one who has never before seen snow. Paris was the last stop on our adventure, and it rained almost every day we were there. Finally, on one of the last days the rain stopped, and we spent a sunny afternoon winding our way through the streets of Montmarte, watching artists in the square, and eating way too many crepes along the way. Our final destination was the Basilica Sacre-Coer’, and it was there on the steps, overlooking the beautiful Paris vista, that Michael proposed.

Why did you choose Indooroopilly Golf Club as your wedding venue?
One of our first dates was on a golf course and Michael really liked the idea of continuing that tradition to include our wedding. We had attended previous events at IGC and were suitably impressed by both the venue and the attentive staff.  We visited again during our wedding venue research and loved the vibe, loved the manicured gardens and the inclusion of the golf buggies for our photos.

Meeting with Stephanie, our coordinator further cemented our choice. We wanted a relatively stress-free experience and Steph was absolutely fabulous. We really felt there was no idea too big or crazy, and no detail left unnoticed. Even when we moved to the other side of the country 6 months before the wedding, the communication and planning proved no challenge to Steph and our day was more perfect than we could ever have imagined.

Favourite Wedding Day memory?

Michael: Watching Teegan walk down aisle – it was so beautiful, so surreal, and very emotional.

Teegan: Exchanging our vows and realising that they matched perfectly, even down to the jokes we wrote.  It was a huge surprise, as we wrote them separately with no knowledge of the other’s words. We laughed (and cried) a lot during the ceremony.

Were there any funny moments throughout your day?
The entire day was filled with laughter. Creating the golf buggy crash photo was an absolute hoot and so much fun – hats off to Stephanie, our IGC coordinator and Andrew our photographer for running with the crazy idea.

Did you include any personal touches to your day?
One of our hobbies is cycling, so we incorporated a bicycle theme into the wedding. Despite Teegan’s pleading, Michael refused to ride off on a tandem bicycle after the ceremony, so instead we borrowed a friend’s vintage bicycle for the ceremony and photos. Teegan’s dad painted an old bike wheel frame to use for the seating chart, and Teegan designed bicycle themed wedding favours.

What advice would you give to future couples planning a wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Chances are, there will always be something that doesn’t go exactly to plan, but at the end of the day, all that matters is being with the one you love. Enjoy the day, and all the memories that come with it.

Did you have a wedding hashtag?
We tried to, although it turned out to be a hilarious wedding hashtag fail. #youhadmeatharro definitely doesn’t read as well as #youhadme@harro. So instead of a play on a movie quote we ended up with a lot of meat jokes on the night. Didn’t help that we had chosen both beef options for the main course 🙂

Is there anything else you would like to say about your special day?
It really was the most wonderful, surreal and fun-filled day, made perfect by being surrounded by the ones we love. A massive thank you to our fabulous vendors and to IGC and in particular, our Coordinator Stephanie for making our wedding dreams a reality.
