Holly and Matt

Holly and Matt’s gorgeous wedding was held on Saturday 10th April, 2021. We asked them a few questions about their special day, read on for their answers in their own words.

How did you choose Indooroopilly Golf Club as your wedding venue?
We chose IGC for the location (easy to access from Brisbane), the range of inclusions in the wedding packages, the huge variety of photo opportunities (Tree, course, archway, mural) and the lovely and incredibly helpful staff we encountered every time we came to visit. It also had great reviews from other couples, so we knew that we and our guests would be very well taken care of.

How did you meet?
At a mutual friend (and Groomswoman), Emma’s housewarming in 2017. We spent the night talking almost exclusively to each other, laughing and eating Mexican food (not necessarily in that order). Whenever we saw each other after that, we just started talking more and more until we finally started dating!

How did Matt pop the question?
We designed my engagement ring together and went to collect it from the city together. Matt planned to take me for a walk through South Bank and propose there but there was a huge food and wine festival on and it was chock full of people and smoke so he asked me if it would be OK if he asked me at home. I said that was absolutely fine so we went back to our house in Capalaba. He told me as soon as we walked in the door that he loved me, would always keep my safe and try to make me happy. He held up the ring and said ‘please say yes’ and I told him he hadn’t actually asked me a question yet. He very good naturedly rolled his eyes, got down on one knee and then asked me to marry him. Of course I said a misty eyed ‘yes’ right away.

Favourite Wedding Day memory?
Matt’s favourite part was having a few laughs with our celebrant during our very personal ceremony. I absolutely agree, although I think my specific favourite moment was walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing Matt standing there at the archway waiting for me.

Did you include any personal touches to your day?

Yes! I made our cake toppers from Funko Pop Vinyls, Matt is an avid collector of them. I also wore a pair of red shoes from Kitten d’amour that Matt bought me as a valentines gift when we were dating. I also had some charms on my bouquet with pictures of my three grandparents who are no longer with us – to still have them as a part of the day. I made a fingerprint guest book with a drawing of Matt’s much loved MX5 car, which we also had at the ceremony. I also made crosswords and trivia for our friends to play during the reception if they didn’t want to dance, those are two things we love to do!

What advice would you give to future couples planning a wedding?

Don’t be afraid to do research and ask for recommendations from people (or Facebook groups) and read reviews. At the end of the day, it’s your day. The smaller details that you put in will matter – if they’re important to you. Don’t worry about all the extra expectation and noise and just create a day that you love and are happy with and reflects the two of you. It is why every single guest will be there.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your special day?
It was quite simply the best day. We are still so happy with all of our vendors and the choices we made. The day reflected us and was a wonderful celebration of our relationship and those we love.
